I’ll have to listen. My semi-active punk band down in Portland has a few of those ourselves. One we call “Runaway Train” is about climate feedback loops. Written out of my climate policy frustration. Raging against the machine is necessary and healthy, and hella fun! I’m a grandpunk geezer, but still at it. Been in the pit with some of the best.
Emily, thanks for bringing your unique spirit and perspective in a solid year of climate reporting. Hope you are able to take some quality self-care time and enjoy the season. See you next year.
Listened to it. Actually pretty damned good. A thoroughly respectable performance. You can send my regards to Alex. Put that out. Music is the language of the emotions, and I’ve written some pretty dark stuff myself, just to let it out. Agree with your approach. Fuck despair. Like The Clash sang many years ago . . .
Like the culture perspective! On the writing side I’m reading Kim Stanley Robinson’s book Ministry of the Future. Lots of climate ideas, taking it to the billionaires!
Far out- That’s the first podcast I have ever listened to. It was interesting to hear how despair was transformed into productive rage- a song. That’s what you have done for me, too. Your work has been a fix for my own feelings of despair, giving me some hope that change can happen when enough people are informed and empowered. Fan-f’n-tastic job, Team Heated! Take a bow!
Thanks so much for turning the conversation around, I love Reply All, but I was getting frustrated with the episode until you got Alex going in the right direction. (And, it made me finally subscribe to Heated!)

Emily, this absolutely rules.

This is killer. I want this song to come out as a single ASAP.

Kick over the wall - cause governments to fall
How can you refuse it?
Let fury have the hour, anger can be power
D’you know that you can use it?

Thanks for your great climate blog. Enjoy your well deserved rest and Holiday.
Awesome! I wrote a climate-anger song too, although it's more synth-pop than punk and more simmering than raging: https://soundcloud.com/zodiacbear/last-mistake

Why the music biz and climate deniers and everything that is wrong are related- https://www.sashaberlinermusic.com/sociopoliticalcommentary-1/2017/9/21/an-open-letter-to-ethan-iverson-and-the-rest-of-jazz-patriarchy I'm a jazz musician that decided to start the Phoenix Jazz Girls Rising last year because I never had that. The climate deniers are pretty much the same as the guys that tell us we can't play....
Right on Right on
Excellent stuff. Enjoy your time off!
Awesome drumming!
