Kudos to Bentley - I love to see innovative approaches of bring visibility to important issues like this. We truly need an all-of-the-above strategy inclusive of traditional and alternative media to bring attention to these issues.
As a side note, I also like the way this story walked through not just what Bentley did but also how the method he chose can be effective at generating action.
Having the time and resources to be able to pull this viral moment shouldn't go unmentioned. Just the same, the message is an important one, and the man almost drowned in service of its delivery. I'm certainly appreciative of the effort.
Agreed - I'm hoping that the lack of interest/ROI is what keeps them away. It seems like that's been effective in the past in some cases when certain controversial ecosystems had lease sales open up and no bidders, but that's not the kind of safety net I want to count on...
The only way Trump loses is if the fossil fuel industry decides that the cost is more than the oil is worth. Trump doesn't care one way or another. He is probably taking a 15% percent cut of the profits anyway. All we can do now is wait and see. The fossil fuel industry is hurting for oil as it is. The Permian Basin is drying up, Trump is trying to tariff the oil from Canada and so on.
Again, Trump doesn't care about anything other than getting his cut of any profits. He's a mafia don. All he cares about is the shake down. Taking his cut off of the top of any business he can intimidate.
That is an amazing story. Deep respect to Bentley.

Depressing that maybe the best we can hope for is the apparent lack of interest from fossil fuel companies in exploiting this area.
Nice coverage though, hopefully it has an impact.

We need a film of his adventure. Someone must put his adventure into documentary film format and get it out there to the public at large.

Fantastic story! It would be a great win to stop Trump from drilling there. Is there a way to help him with some donations?
Great reporting. Kudos to Bentley and to you, Emily.
