I applaud the bravery shown by Licy, by Greta, and so many other young people trapped by the indecisiveness (at best) and recklessness of their elders. I doubt I would have been willing to stand up at that age the way that they have, the way they know they must.

"Al Suwaidi said the COP28 presidency was aiming for a "historic" result that included mentioning fossil fuels"

It is always amazing when something can be both horrifying and laughably absurd.

Just a practical level though, if the final draft requires the consensus of all countries attending and there will always be opposition from some number of states to any truly meaningful language, does that mean the process is broken fundamentally and needs to be changed? I do think there is value in unanimous approval at the expense of weaker language and I'm not sure any other any system would truly be better. Not sure.

But thank you for covering this protest and her story.

From the moment I learned that the leader of COP28 was a fossil fuel executive, I expected COP28 to be a failure.

Thank you for highlighting this heroic young person. Well said: ““Small Child Becomes Leading Voice Of Climate Movement” is a story that falls into the same trap as “Office Workers Donate Vacation Days To Pregnant Colleague So She Can Have Maternity Leave.” . . . only made necessary by a total systemic failure to protect children. They are not inspirational. They are horrifying.”

This just goes to show us that we are all in dire jeapordy. The youngest among us are going to be left clinging to proverbial life rafts in the near future and the older adults only want to worship money.

My mind and heart both pound for Licypriya – her initiative, her courage, her clarity, her ejection.

Great final point: Licy's story is neither cute nor heart-warming, it's a fucking horror story.

So cute ... but she should be back in school not rewarded for emotional outbursts that does nothing to get to the truth.
