These sort of pieces is what makes Heated so valuable but also what is really needed in the climate movement. We need to call out the small group of people that are blocking progress so they face pressure/lose social credibility.
pleeeeease make this a permanent 'power rankings' list, doesn't even need to be updated often. Just a good reminder who our top enemies of the moment are
So most of them almost certainly contributed to the 2008 financial crisis?! Color me not surprised they don't give a shit about the climate catastrophe!
I know this is super important to you because of your laser-like focus on climate issues, but you realize these guys and many others on both sides are contributing because -- like it or not -- this is about raw and pure political issues... and unfortunately, climate ranks near the bottom of all those issues. And even if Dems win the two GA seats, I suspect you will be disappointed in the policy actions taken. Just feel like you often should consider that dose of political reality.
Thanks for showing us which people/companies Not to support, Emily!!! Was wondering if you could share your top 10 companies/projects To support. My financial broker doesn't get it...he just wants to make money : (
My everloving family, the kind of people who were radicals in the 60s, voted for Ralph Nader, but also found financial success and admire Mike Bloomberg while marveling at the ineptitude of government, are constantly trying to talk me off of my climate cliff by arguing, with the righteous wag of a finger, that the wizards of finance and innovation are certain to pull us back from the brink. Take this article forwarded to me this morning: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/13/climate-change-a-7-trillion-warning-from-markets-biggest-investor.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.apple.UIKit.activity.Mail. Blackrock, the world's largest money manager, and it's captain Larry Fink will ride to our rescue, the argument goes. And not a moment too soon as it is pointless to look for climate solutions through democratic (small d) government. Bill McKibben has praised the move, and I'm sure there's room for nuance, but I'd love it if you could set us straight on BlackRock's saber-rattling.
Good piece and yes money is important, but I would argue not as important as many think. In 2016 Trump hardly spent any money and won and in 2020 Dems had a 2 or 3 to 1 money advantage (think Amy McGrath raising $80m and losing by 15 points). This (climate) is like many issues.. A deep tribal emotional issue where many people simply don't believe in the optimistic vision of "clean energy" and jobs. They remember NAFTA etc and decades of globalization destroying the middle class. When they hear elites talk about retraining to clean energy jobs they call bs.

I’d be interested to know what other companies and lobbyists fill out the list, especially for the millions poured into Georgia.
So glad to see at least one list that our own Jeff Bezos isn't on.
