Back in the early 70's I did a special project in order to waive my Government class requirement, where I compared the John Birch Society Blue manual with the SDS manual. Guess what: I found out that they were almost identical! They believed in some of the same conspiracies and pointed fingers at the same bad guys, which made me conclude that instead of politics being on a spectrum with the extreme left on one end and the extreme right on the other end, it was actually a circle, joined at the point where the extreme right and left overlap. I got an A on the paper, and got to skip my Government class to boot!

Trump spent four years pouring a foundation of rank dishonesty in our nation's political discourse. He didn't invent the habit, of course, but he certainly has taken it to the greater degree than any predecessor. And now that this foundation has solidified, we are all at a loss to filter out the myriad lies that permeate our dialogue.

So, thanks for being a filter that helps a lot in this endeavor. And if you ever, ever deliberately repeat or state anything on this platform that is not 100% factual, I promise I will hunt you down, videotape my verbal dressing down, and post it on every social media platform I can find.

Not that I feel there is a need for worry, of course. 😎

Hippy Nazi might seem a contradiction in terms until you look at the many authoritarian cults generated out of “New Age” subculture since the 1960s. Many of today’s megachurches came out of the early 70s “Jesus Movement.” I lived through the 1980s invasion of Oregon by the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh cult. People dressed in red were running all over the place. Today there are definite fascist strains in anarchy-primitivism and some elements of deep ecology. It seems to originate with “get out of your head” irrationalism, and the self-validating sense of being privy to a superior awareness that most of the fool masses do not have. So bullshit-by-the-horns comes as no surprise.

This reminds me of the "blood and soil" "brown environmentalist" movement in Germany that links "clearn living" and traditional farming to German identity in service of far right wing causes. https://www.politico.eu/article/germany-bio-nazis-go-green-natural-farming-right-wing-extremism/
