You would think a man who had a literal worm in his brain would comprehend the dangers of swimming in sewage-laden water. Guess not.

The worm ate that part of his brain, so, no, he doesn’t have that kind of comprehension anymore.

The title of the post is perfect — crap indeed. More importantly, it doesn't soft pedal RFK Jr.'s abject lack of qualification for his position. These are not normal times, but too many media outlets just shrug at this administration's egregious abuses. Thanks for the plain speaking about a critical situation.

In addition to gutting the EPA & Clean Water Act, the current administration is also gutting NOAA, which in turn is endangering the Great Lakes - only home to about 20% of the world's surface fresh water (and 90% of the surface fresh water in the USA). Without the oversight and scientific assistance of NOAA personnel, there will be no more monitoring of algal blooms (like the one that shut down water from Lake Erie in Ohio for over 1/2 million people for three straight days).

Seems to me that RFKjr and others in the Trump admin are taking a "survival of the strongest" mentality to our environment (and immigration and education, and, and, and...). "So what if climate change is real, because the 'best' (read richest) among us will survive" As Emily reports, this seems to play out in RFKjr's thinking about germs and vaccines as well. I wish they were just stupid people, but the actions of this admin can only be read as deliberate. The lack of care or morality that goes into that thinking is mind boggling.

“Kook” is a word that needs to be used more often. Because “free spirit” would mean he was strange but not dangerous. And “lunatic” would imply he had no control over what he was and what he was doing.

Thanks for this well-sourced takedown. So much for “merit hires”! Love this: “Kennedy’s form of environmentalism is the equivalent of toasting all-natural marshmallows over a tire fire.” 😂

RFK Jr was never a good guy, even when he "ran" Water Keepers. From what I've read, he used it as a platform for attention and adulation, screwing the guy who started it (a republican who cared deeply about the Hudson), undermining him and taking his job in very ugly fashion. Once a malignant narcissist, alway a malignant narcissist.

Disgusting, yet perhaps the least surprising moment in the current administration and through the antics of RFK we all know and are in total disbelief of. 😫

Also +10 points for the jokes we could and should make about the title of this and RFK 😉

Great post highlighting a one of the insidious ways RFK, Jr. is harming our country.

And this line -- "Kennedy’s form of environmentalism is the equivalent of toasting all-natural marshmallows over a tire fire" is classic. Keep up the good fight.

It seems that the end goal is to defund any environmental policies so the corporations can do whatever they want without regard for the planet or the lifeforms that live on it. They don't seem to care about anything beyond their life spans. Parts of the United States could well become uninhabitable wastelands within the next fifty years if this keeps up.

Exactly, it is just trying to give an impression of giving a crap about the environment while decimating every rule there is.

Thank you highlighting this!

Speaking on behalf of benighted "crap," you should know any association with RFK Jr is a massive insult. Yick.

Emily, I love you and your mission and it’s my privilege to support this newsletter, but is there really such a thing as an “all natural marshmallow”?
