All too common in the professional services industry (PR, consulting, marketing). Someone is tasked with building a "sustainability practice" with half hearted support from leadership, while the other side of the business is doubling down on providing services to carbon intensive companies and historically malicious actors.
While the agencies signing that pledge to not do marketing for fossil fuels is heartening, I don't trust these other agencies to do the right thing like you detailed in this excellent article.
The only solution is a ban on fossil fuel advertising imo.
