I hate the future of whether we have to deal with Trump and him having Musk run some stupid agency or RFK in charge of HHS, or maybe even Tucker Carlson in charge of something when today he said increased hurricanes aren't because of climate change but because of abortion. https://x.com/atrupar/status/1853516636403212543

Or have Harris (which obviously people can disagree with her about stuff), running a decent, responsible, empathetic administration, is basically decided by a coin flip. I know you said to get sleep in the email for this newsletter lol, but these past few weeks trying to do everything I can to get her elected have left me exhausted, but I still have trouble sleeping just because of anxiousness. I guess whatever happens, happens. I feel like I've done all I can to help and I hope it will be enough.

I don't really have a more meaningful comment to the article, and I'm sincerely sorry about that because these recent articles on Craft are great reporting. I'm just too exhausted to say anything other than I just absolutely fucking hate and despise it all. I'm tired of Trump and all his fascism and hatred. I'm tired of fossil fuel billionaires and companies doing nothing but destroying the planet. I'm tired of Musk being a hateful bigoted shithead. I just want to turn the page on all that, and I hate not knowing if we are just about to, or we have to deal with another 4+ years of all this crap.

A regret I have is not being more appreciative of HEATED and your writing when I first discovered it. But now, no matter what happens, having this space and your and Arielle's coverage and writing, is something that is truly comforting and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Bitcoin = Ponzi-scheme

Musk makes me want to vomit. I'm making calls with the Environmental Voter Project. Helps me not be too anxious!

I can't quite figure why "Bitcoin" is still a popular cryptocurrency. It's my understanding that Ethereum provides the same services with 1/100th the electricity use. Proof of Work algorithm vs. Proof of Stake. Anyway the Chinese kicked the bitcoin miners out and our Red states welcomed them, I guess because if China or the Democrats oppose something, they should support it. And vice versa. Except maybe for nuclear power, but the Chinese are really getting much more new power from solar and wind and storing it in dozens of pumped hydro installations along with other more innovative energy storage while ramping their coal use down. China built new coal plants in the last few years, but also retired many and is running the new ones at progressively lower load factors (hours per year) as time goes by.

Yikes! A coal mine slated for retirement was able to stay open by using its energy to mine Bitcoin.

The cryptocurrencies are stupid and gross, but it's the AI that worries me in terms of its energy consumption. Someone at work mentioned that an AI specialized server takes 10 times the power consumption of a normal one. And that's not even mentioning the energy and other nastiness embodied from manufacture of all those GPU chips.

I'm waiting for yours and Arielle's takes on AI.

Also I wonder what it would take to have AI become a dirty word for this reason among the left and the environmentally conscious. Its energy waste seems by far the more immediate concern as opposed to, say, the Terminator Skynet style fears. I mean, some hostile fake intelligence takes us all over? Didn't that just happen Tuesday? Whatever.
