Great piece. The commitment and courage of water protectors is inspiring. This jumped out, "They also allege an unethical relationship between Enbridge and local police, as well as on local media." Can't imagine it's NOT unethical after reporting on some police departments particularly cozy arrangements with armed militant right-wingers. Makes me so effing mad. Keep digging. Onward.
This is a great read, and I'm so excited that you'll be here in MN for the next two weeks. Line 3 is truly complex and multilayered, and I'm so glad you're giving it the attention and focus it deserves. I live in the Twin Cities and have been up to Palisade (the Water Protector Welcome Center you referenced) several times in the past few months. It will be fun to see you if you're still there the next time I go north!
Ok, I'm doing it. In this paragraph: We don’t know what activists fighting the Line 3 pipeline in Minnesota are planning, if they are planning anything at all. But we know most believe Enbridge hasn’t played fair. They say state and local governments approved this proposal without fully considering the consequences for the climate and environment. They note the federal government approved it without performing an environmental impact statement at all.

Thank you for this. Eager to read your forthcoming stories and maybe also learn how we as a climate justice community can help.
Thank you for investigating this. Is there a way I can send financial support beyond what I've contributed with my subscription?
I love this line: Aubid is not angry because she is hungry. She is hungry because she is furious.
If Enbridge got approved without an environmental impact statement, isn't some organization bringing a lawsuit?
I'm as thrilled as everyone else here to be supporting you and your research assistant on this story. Give em hell!
Did I see somewhere Enbridge is paying the cops? Maybe all those other counties are there to glom onto the cash stream.
This sentence: But we know most believe Enbridge hasn’t played fair.

If I see a typo and mention it, is that annoying or helpful?
